Using AI to Create Visualizations: Part 1

In this post, I am using Bing AI to create renderings of what a potential streetcar line would look like in Downtown St. Louis.

Prompt and Outcome #1

In this first prompt, I asked Bing AI to create a street scene of Forest Park Parkway, Market in St. Louis. Keeping the language open to interpretation, Bing AI focused on keywords that I entered: autumn, Gateway Arch, streetcar, people, and vibrant. In previous trials, efforts of mentioning St. Louis did not yield any illustration of the Gateway Arch, however AI did recognize the Old Courthouse as an archetypal St. Louis landmark.

Prompt and Outcome #2

Shown Above: Second Attempt at a Detailed Rendering.

Notice how much more detailed this rendering becomes. The picture grew from creating an akin resemblance to St. Louis, to now resembling a what-could-be design of the city's streetscape. Bing AI is even starting to recognize other buildings that exist in St. Louis' skyline, without me telling it to feature those details.

In this second prompt, I asked Bing AI to center the Old Courthouse between the Arch, add color to the streetcar, and add shops to Market Street. In the next post, I will be exploring direct design narratives and existing buildings, so that AI can create a more realistic visualization of Downtown St. Louis.
